The purpose of the safety and health committee is to assist management in providing a safe workplace. The committee members, being active safety advocates, accomplish this. Acting as the liaison between workers and management, committee members work to ensure a cooperative effort to improve safety in the workplace. Rule 12. (1) & (2) of the Factories and Other Places of Work (Safety and Health Committees) Rules, Legal Notice No. 31 of 2004 require that every member of the Committee undertakes a prescribed basic training course in occupational health and safety. The training duration is 30 contact hours.
